About Us

The Cayman Islands Branch of STEP was established in 1997 and currently has more than 300 members, including professionals working in a diverse range of disciplines (legal, accounting, insurance, banking, family office and fiduciary services). As a leading financial centre, and with a wealth of statutory and jurisprudential guidance on trusts and estates law, the Cayman Islands’ trusts industry is vibrant.  Within the jurisdiction, there are currently over 140 active trust licences and 129 private trust companies registered with the Cayman Islands regulator, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.

The Council of STEP Cayman likewise has a multidisciplinary composition and currently boasts 19 fully committed Council members who also act on various sub committees and international STEP council boards. Council members dedicate their time to, among other things, contributing to legislative developments, monitoring and advising on the evolving regulatory requirements of the modern world, and working to ensure the ongoing education and professional development of Branch members.

In terms of education, the Branch continues to facilitate the STEP Foundation and Diploma exams, which is one of the methods used to become a qualified STEP member. In assisting with the exams, face-to-face courses are held locally during the course of the year to help individuals prepare for a successful attempt at the examinations.  The Branch also holds monthly evening lectures for its members, student members, and prospective members to attend.  Dates for these and other Branch events can be found on our “Branch News” page.

The Branch is also focused on promoting the Cayman Islands, both as a jurisdiction of choice for private and institutional clients and more widely, locally and internationally.  After the success of its inaugural conference in 2018, the Cayman Islands branch is hosting its second annual STEP International Wealth Structuring Forum in the Cayman Islands on 31 January – 1 February 2019. Local and international speakers will inform and update attendees on developments, trends, and forecasts for the trusts and estates arena.  More details can be found on our “Branch Events” page.
